Product Notes
Product Notes
- Since rush grass is a natural material, it is a little delicate, but in return it has many beneficial properties that are gentle on people.
- Igusa is a natural material with unique properties. To fully utilize the benefits of Igusa, regular cleaning of the room and adequate ventilation are essential.
- The color of the rush grass around the edges may look different from the color of the rush grass in the center. Please note that these color differences are a characteristic of rush grass being a natural material and are not a defect in the product itself.
- Please note that as this is a natural material, there may be slight variations in size.
- Each prevention function is an effect compared to the unprocessed product and does not mean complete prevention.
■ Precautions for use
- After purchasing, please take it out of the nylon bag immediately (some products do not come in a bag). If left sealed, it may grow mold.
- Before use, gently wipe the surface with a dry cloth along the grain. This will remove any surface dust and excess dyeing soil (which is harmless to the human body) and increase the luster of the rush grass.
- Rubbing hard or wiping with water may cause discoloration or mold.
- If you close the room in summer, dust mites and other pests will easily appear. Open the windows occasionally to ventilate the room.
■ When storing
- Igusa products can be used in all seasons, but when storing them, lightly tap them to remove dust, dry them in the shade for about two hours, and then store them in a dark, low-humidity place.
■When cleaning
- Igusa will discolor if exposed to direct sunlight, so by drying it in the shade, you can enjoy its beautiful color for a long time.
- Wrap the okara in a cloth and wipe it along the grain of the rush grass to give it a glossy finish.
- If the stain is minor, we recommend wiping it with vinegar rather than using chemical detergents.
■ If mold grows
- Although the product has been treated with anti-mold coating, mold may grow if the rush grass absorbs excessive moisture due to environmental factors (mold will grow if the moisture content is approximately 15% or more).
- If mold does appear, dry it in the shade for about an hour and then use a brush to remove the mold.
- After that, gently vacuum the area, being careful to ventilate the room so that you don't inhale the mold that you removed.
- If the mold is severe, remove it with bleach and rubbing alcohol. Open the windows to allow for adequate ventilation, and wear gloves when cleaning. Moisten a rag with hot water and a small amount of bleach, wring it out tightly, and then wipe the area.
- After that, soak a clean cloth in alcohol and wipe it off. Alcohol has antibacterial properties and is effective in preventing the growth of mold.
- When drying, make sure to ventilate thoroughly.
■ If it gets dirty
- Even if you do spill water, cleaning it up right away will help remove the stain and minimize damage.
- Unless the stain is dark, no detergent is needed if you soak it up immediately.
- If you spill soy sauce, sprinkle flour or baby powder on the surface and let it absorb the dirt before vacuuming it up. For heavy stains, dissolve a mild detergent in lukewarm water and wipe the area with a tightly wrung out rag, or dab the area lightly with benzine.
- If you have crayon or marker stains, apply cream cleanser to a dry cloth and wipe them off carefully. If you have permanent marker stains, wipe them off with nail polish remover.
Please note that since rush grass is a breathing plant, it will discolor (burn) due to ultraviolet rays, but this does not affect its functionality or quality.

A unique "layered structure" that uses a generous amount of rush grass
In most traditional tatami mats, the tatami floor is wrapped in a tatami surface and tatami border, but in our laminated structure, "igusa" is used not only for the surface of the tatami mat, but for eight layers including the filling.
Therefore, not only can you enjoy the functionality and benefits of rush grass compared to traditional tatami mats, but it also has a high level of cushioning.

Undyed soil dried in the sun "igusa"
Traditional rush grass is made using dyeing soil and dyes to protect it from the sun and to add color.
However, the tatami surface of this product does not use any dyes or dyes, but is made from cut grass that is simply dried in the sun.
This type of rush is called "undyed soil rush" and can be used without any problems like traditional rush, but because it does not use dyes or dyes, it can be used without any problems even if it comes into direct contact with the skin or if children or pets lick it.

Soundproofing effect that takes the surroundings into consideration
The cushioning and sound-absorbing properties of the rush grass itself make this tatami highly soundproof. It is recommended for families with children or those who live close to neighbors, such as those living in an apartment building.

Bringing the long-loved tatami mats into the modern age
The word "Yae," which is also in the name of this product, can also be found in other texts such as the Kojiki and Manyoshu as the name of a special type of rug.
The tatami mats that are made using the utmost care in terms of materials and manufacturing methods, and are realized using modern technology, are called "Yae Takumi".

With anti-slip treatment
It comes with an anti-slip coating from the start, so you can use it immediately after receiving it.
We are taking measures to prevent the problem of floor tatami mats slipping.
